Well done guys we are at the end of another successful term. Next term we will begin our new mediators in our roster. As seniors will be away or studying for exams I will not be using them next term in the roster.
You can collect your new roster/timetable from Mrs Cartman. Please let her know if there are any problems.

Five students will be heading over to Oxford Area School to complete some Advanced mediation training. They will also perform a "mock" mediation with narration at their assembly. We will perform this at our next assembly and at a staff meeting to remind the staff what we do.
On Friday September 27 all mediators will be working with Hororata Primary School and Tracy (Mediation Trainer). We will be doing some team building and working on our advanced mediation skills.

Thank you to all those people who helped out with Peace Week, start thinking about what we could do next year.
Well done to those people who are now timetabled to be out in the playground at intervals and lunchtimes.
Please remember to wear your vest when you are on duty. You can pick it up from Mrs Hill in the office.
At our next meeting we will be discussing: - What we can do to improve the Darfield High School Peer Mediation Programme - What to do at the next assembly - What training we need - Following up on mediations
There are 5 students heading off on the 17th August to Oxford Area School to complete a ‘mock’ mediation at their assembly, we look forward to hearing from them.
Very soon we will be working on our advanced mediation training skills with Hororata Primary School. I will keep you posted!
There have been 22 formal mediations so far this year.
· 20 of these mediations had been resolved at the time of the mediation (the other 2 went back to the Dean) · 18 mediations had follow ups
Our next meeting is Friday 6 August at lunchtime.

Today Mrs Cartman gave us a brochure about peace week. We discussed how peace week is going to run.
- 2 students are going to create posters advertising peace week to put up around the school.
- 2 people will be speaking at assembly for the next 2 weeks.
- Sam Broughton is looking at organising a guest speaker to speak during peace week.
- We will run 2 comps - 1 for Juniors and 1 for seniors (day to be decided)
- Run in houses.
- Wear white ribbons?
- Sasauge Sizzle??
We discussed Tracy Scott coming back and working with us. We will work with Hororata Primary as part of the students Advanced Mediation training.
IMPORTANT
We have been having a problem with some students not getting the notices so we discussed what we could do to fix this. Students who are on duty at interval and lunchtime will report to Mrs Cartman in E1 at the beginning of lunch and interval to check and see if there are any formal mediations that need to be done.
NEW:
When students organise a follow up mediation they will write it on a calender locked away in Mrs Cartmans room. On the calender (the date the mediation will take place) the mediators put their initials and the students names who are having the follow up. Mrs Cartman will then put it in the notices.
Students were reminded to pick up and wear their vests while on duty.

Today we found out about peace week and are orginizing ourselves into groups of ruffley four [see shearing page]
We need to also choose a day and think of an activity to do with the whole school at lunchtime.
Peace week is June the 21st-25th.
Mrs Cartman handed out Peace week planning sheets. If you don't have one please get one off her ASAP
Also we are having problems with the matter of studnets in a mediation lying, so please remember to always check that both sides agree with what has been said or if not ask for the other persons opinion.
Then if the problems continue say at the beginning "we established that you must tell the truth (be honest) as one of our ground rules of mediation, so this case might have to go to a teacher if we are not honest"
and them one of then should hopefully own up. If not stop the mediation and refer to Mrs Cartman or one of the counsellors
Sweet!

Today Mrs Cartman showed us the new vests that we will be wearing while on duty to make us more Identifiable.
We looked at the new DHS Peer Mediation wiki and discussed what it is for.
We shared some interesting bullying statistics and discussed them.
Next term we will be looking at having two mediators in the playground on duty as well as having someone in the library.
14.05.10 -
It was wonderful to have Mrs Pengelly as our guest speaker today. We have more of an understanding about some students and their needs.
We have completed the 1st part of the Year 7 and 8 Conflict teaching and we will begin to work with the Year 9's soon.
In the next few weeks we will be working on the 2nd part of the conflict teaching with the Yer 7 and 8's.
We will be receiving some new vests to wear in the playground so that we are easily recognisable in the school grounds.
The current mediators meet every Friday lunchtime.
